International travel is inherently risky. By becoming a volunteer, you acknowledge and accept these risks and those associated with living and working in developing countries. As a volunteer you must appreciate and understand that some of these activities may be outside of your personal insurance coverage.
Friends Vision is not liable (to the maximum extent of the law) for any loss or harm you may suffer, including but not limited to loss caused by:
Friends Vision reserves the right to use feedback and photographs from volunteers for website and marketing material. riends Vision is not liable for any errors or mistakes made by partner organizations. All disputes are governed by the laws of Australia.
This site is presented solely for the purpose of promoting Friends Vision charitable projects and services. This site is controlled and operated by Friends Vision from its offices in Australia. Friends Vision makes no representation that materials in the site are appropriate or available for use in other locations. Those who choose to access this site from other locations do so on their own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local laws, if and to the extent local laws are applicable.
Fifty percent (50%) of the program fee / package is refundable (excluding any non-refundable deposit) until two calendar weeks before your volunteer placement is due to commence. For example a volunteer with 15 June 2012 as their start date would need to submit their refund request form by the last day of May 2012 to be eligible for a refund.
Program fees & any additional donations (monetary or in-kind) paid directly to our partner organizations are non-refundable.
All requests to transfer / postpone your placement must be made in writing two calendar weeks before you are due to begin your placement. Where a program is interrupted or cancelled during a placement / rotation, due to circumstances beyond Friends Vision’s control (including but not limited to, war, terrorism, natural disasters), the program fee is non-refundable.
All requests for program fee refunds must be faxed, posted, or scanned as an e-mail attachment to Friends Vision with your signature at the bottom. Phone calls and e-mails are not acceptable. You will be notified of Friends Vision receiving your refund request form within three working days. Should you not be emailed in regards to your request, the assumption should be made that the request form was not received. Friends Vision is not responsible for email, fax or mail that is not received.Refunds are only issued once a week. Once your refund has been processed you will receive confirmation of the refund being issued. Program fees paid through Friends Vision by means of bank or wire transfer will need to have the transaction costs covered by the payee. We reserve the right to revise the program fee. All program fee revisions will be announced at least seven days in advance via the website.
Program fees are due 2 weeks prior to the volunteer placement is due to commence. Failure to make payment by this time may result in loss of placement.
Statute of Limitations
Friends Vision has a one year statute of limitation on program fee quotes and refund requests. The program fee quoted by Friends Vision is valid for a one year period from the date of application fee payment and / or the "Apply Now" date. Where a placement has been postponed or transferred beyond the one year period, the current program fee will apply. The one year statute of limitations for refund requests begins on the date of original payment / "Apply Now" date and is applicable to all fees / payments.
Friends Vision requires certain information from volunteers throughout the process leading up to program arrival. This may include an application including details about the volunteer's skills and experience, a police background check, agreement of legal terms of service, copy of medical insurance, copy of flight itineraries, etc. If this information is not submitted or reveals a volunteer's lack of suitability for the program, Friends Vision reserves the right to halt the placement process until satisfactory changes are made. If the necessary changes cannot be made, this may result in loss of placement.
Friends Vision requires all volunteers to purchase travelers insurance that covers any loss or harm you may suffer while volunteering. Friends Vision will not be responsible for damage, theft, personal harm, injury or otherwise occurring during your volunteer placement. Each volunteer should be very aware that he or she is traveling to a destination that is inherently dangerous.
All online payments are processed through a secure third party site who do not provide Friends Vision with sensitive information such as credit card details.

Information provided in the online application forms and extra details forms is collected solely for internal use within Friends Vision and its partner organizations. Your e-mail and details such as home country will be passed onto volunteers who are in the same group as you, allowing you to make contact before you meet. If you would prefer that this did not happen, please let us know.
Rules & Regulations
Volunteer Accommodation Rules & Regulations
Friends Vision requires all volunteers to abide by the rules and regulations stated at the volunteer’s accommodation. Any lack of responsibility and cooperation with these rules may warrant removal from your volunteer program, with no refunds. These rules include, but are not limited to : theft or damage to your accommodation; verbal, physical or sexual confrontation towards Friends Vision Kenyan volunteers and staff or other volunteers; inviting non-approved persons into the Friends Vision accommodation without prior approval, etc.
Volunteer Placement Rules & Regulations
Friends Vision requires all volunteers to act responsible and professional while working with our partner organizations. The ability to volunteer in developing countries is a privilege; therefore, we expect our volunteers to be sensitive to the nature, depravity, poverty and harsh realities of the children, women and men we are working to help.
Friends Vision will not tolerate any theft or damage to the property of our partner organizations; verbal, physical or sexual confrontation towards our partner organization staff and dependents; inviting non-approved persons into the partner organization’s property without prior approval. Each volunteer has a responsibility to respect the culture and nature of the work they have agreed to pursue in Kenya.
You may not use the Feed or display any Friends Vision Content on any Site that is a web site that is excluded by Friends Vision. Web sites excluded by Friends Vision are any sites that contain material which is libelous, defamatory, pornographic, misleading, or obscene, any site which brings Friends Vision into disrepute, or any site which promotes discrimination, violence, or illegal activity.
Warranties and Liability
The Friends Vision Feed is made available by Friends Vision on an "as is" and "as available" basis and Friends Vision gives no warranty of any kind in relation to the Friends Vision Feed, the Friends Vision Content, or any content on the Friends Vision website.
Friends Vision disclaims all implied warranties, including but not limited to the implied warranties of satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, compatibility, and accuracy regarding Friends Vision Content, the Friends Vision Feed and the Friends Vision website and any content thereon. Friends Vision excludes all liability for any loss or damage arising in relation to the Friends Vision feed, Friends Vision content, any virus or other contamination, or any unavailability of Friends Vision content.
You may not use any Friends Vision logo, Friends Vision images and fundraising material or other Friends Vision trademark without explicit permission from Friends Vision.
|December 2018 Update|
|We have had another big year here at Friends Vision and although we’ve had some setbacks, we’ve also had many reasons to celebrate. In particular, we are always inspired by the many achievements of the children and young people we support. With increasing costs and floods wiping out most of our crops, we also need to continue to fundraise so read on to see what we have planned.|
|March 2018 Update|
|It continues to be an interesting, challenging, rewarding and evolving journey for us as we move into our eighth year. While it’s been around two years since my last update (so sorry), the wheels have still been turning over as we venture into new territory this year. Our focus on sustainability is in full force with some exciting new partnerships; we have gained tax deductibility status in Australia; welcomed new staff members and new children and had the first of our young adults finishing High School and beginning our transition program.|

|All in all it has been a busy, exciting and challenging year for us at Friends Vision as we slowly move through some changes that have taken place within our organisation. Throughout the year we have welcomed new staff, gained our Kenyan NGO status, began our farming project and started to move towards a more sustainable future.|
